The Wales Swim Itinerary


There's loads going on at the Long Course Weekend - with the young talent competing in TAFFKids and the professionals and amateurs challenging for the glory of being Long Course Weekend champion!

So we've made things simple for you... to work out where you need to be and when you can see the best of the action, simply check out our itinerary of events below.

Please be aware that details below are based on the 2016 details and information may change closer to the event.


Thursday 6th July

12:00 - 8:00pm - Registration Open (Tenby Leisure Centre, Marsh Road, Tenby)
Only the athlete themselves may collect their race number/goodie bag and will be required to produce photographic identification when registering.

We strongly urge anyone who is able to register on Thursday to do so. This will reduce queues and give you a more relaxed weekend!

3:00pm onwards - LCW Seminar Begins (Tenby Leisure Centre, Marsh Road, Tenby)
We have a number of talks going on to give athletes the best advice and skills to help them have a fantastic race. Speakers will include Mark from Mike's Bikes, former Champion Dominic Rphan-Gates, and 4 time Ironman Champion Lucy Gossage.


Friday 7th July

10:00 - 6:00pm - Registration Open (Tenby Leisure Centre, Marsh Road, Tenby)
All Long Course Weekend athletes must register before 6:00pm if they wish to participate in the event. Only the athlete themselves may collect their race number/goodie bag and will be required to produce photographic identification when registering.

10:00 - 8:00pm - Race Expo (Tenby Leisure Centre, Marsh Road, Tenby)
The race expo is free to enter for athletes and the general public. It will showcase specialist swimming, cycling and running exhibitors and will be a great place to check out the latest products or update your kit.

12:00 - 8:00pm - Sports Massage (Tenby Leisure Centre, Marsh Road, Tenby)
15 - 20 minute massage sessions will be available in the De Valence Pavilion.

4:00pm - The Wave Radio (North Beach, Tenby)
The Wave Radio Station start broadcast from North Beach as athletes will start to assemble.

5:00pm - Taff Kids Start (North Beach, Tenby)
The Taff Kids event begins!

6:30pm - Swim Acclimatisation (North Beach, Tenby)
All swimmers will be required to enter the water prior to the race start to acclimatise to the conditions. This is imperative for health and safety reasons. Athletes are also advised to keep active during their time in the start pen to ensure that their heart rate is above their normal resting rate prior to the swim start.

6:45pm - Start Pen Closes (North Beach, Tenby)
All athletes must move into the start pen in preparation for the safety briefing and race start. Any athlete not in the pen by 6:45pm will not be allowed to race.

6:45pm - Swim Briefing (North Beach, Tenby)
All athletes must attend the pre-race safety briefing.

7:00pm - THE WALES SWIM (North Beach, Tenby)
Athletes will enter the water and begin a one or two lap swim around Tenby's picturesque north beach. Each lap is 1.2 miles long, and will have a one hour cut off. Any athlete participating part in the 2.4 mile swim taking longer than one hour to complete the first lap will not be allowed to begin the second.

8:00pm - First Lap Cut Off Time (North Beach, Tenby)

9:00pm - Race Cut Off Time (North Beach, Tenby)
