Frequently Asked Questions

The Wales Swim - FAQ's

Please note - photographic identification will be required at registration. Athletes without this may not be registered by the start time of the event.

Q: How is the start organised?
A: It will be a mass start, therefore you will need to get into position prior to the starting gun. If you think you are in with a chance, get to the front - if not, try and organise yourselves with quicker swimmers nearer the front and slower ones at the back.
Q: How do you marshall / ensure safety on a swim?
A: There will be support boats and kayaks with qualified life-saving personnel on hand. There will be a Race Briefing prior to the race, but if you have any problems, it is standard to lie on your back, raise your hand and you will be picked out the water as soon as possible.
Q: Do I have to wear a wetsuit?
A: Wearing a westuit is mandatory.
Q: Do I need a swim cap?
A: You must wear the Activity Wales Events swim cap provided for the event. This will be in your goodie bag for collection at Registration.
Q: What is the minimum age to enter The Wales Swim?
A: The 2.4 swim has a minimum age of 18, while for the 1.2 mile swim the minimum age is 14. Please be aware that all swimmers under 18 must have a Parental Consent Form completed.
